Week ending Sun, June 13

  • Harvested the last of our early strawberry plants

  • Saw a snake!

  • Last shifting of tomato/pepper plants for better sun

  • Tested soil pH

  • Added baking soda solution to chard, kale, peppers and alliums (onions, leeks, garlic)

  • Started 2 buckets compost tea

  • Fed all plants with last of organic plant food

  • Thinned: carrots, fennel, lettuces, string beans, cucumbers, basil, cilantro over-winters, cilantro self-sow, husk cherry self-sow

  • 2 nights of slug traps

  • Staked more tomatoes

  • Planted (seed): kale, cippolium, lettuce, catnip, chard, black-eyed Susans, cosmos, marigolds, calendula, mesclun, Paris romaine, beets

  • Planted (seedlings): pink echinacea, lemon balm, tomato

  • Mulberries are ripening

  • Irises are done; red roses are in full effect; yellow roses have one bud opening!

  • Pink lillies and borage are blooming; tiger lillies are budding

  • 2 more tomato plants are bearing fruit this week, for a total of 3

  • Sorted seeds: put away certain succession sows (mesclun, romaine, escarole) after a final planting (for use again in mid-August); packed for sharing all squash seeds I won't use and more saved from flower seeds

  • Did weeding after a night of rain

  • Gave away: at least 9 trays of seedlings; last of canned produce; 10 bags of lettuce; carrot thinnings and strawberry tastings; fresh herbs; seed packets (15 by Saturday morning)

  • Harvested/pulled shell peas

  • Harvested/pulled rest of escarole-- last planting until August

  • Cucamelons coming back to life!
